I recently posted a live performance of "Running On My Own" on NZMusic4ULIVE. Lydia Cole writes beautiful, heartfelt songs but that alone is not enough to make it onto this blog. I am looking for dynamics, texture, melodic variation, decent production values, and that "je ne sais quoi" that marks an artist out, and makes the artist marketable offshore. And part of that of course is the video really needs to be of a reasonable standard. "Blind Boy" is extremely well put together. I love that mid-song build into the chorus. The simple but effective piano part is a favourite as well. I think most viewers will like this. The video (art & direction) is by Ralph Matthews. Perfect Sunday fare.
